Nakagawa's Hokisugi(Huge cedar like a broom)

【Huge trees with age 2000 years where God resides】

It is one of the prefecture's biggest trees, about XXUMXm in breast height, about 12m in roots and about 18m in height, the estimated age is also about 45 year of the oldest prefecture under the prefecture.

It is said that the origin of the name is because it is said that this district was called Hokisawa in the same way as Hokisugi (Hoki Cedar) and because the tree shape resembles a broom.

Hokisugi is a very nice cedar tree which protected the inhabitants from the disaster of landslides caused by the large fire of the Meiji 37 year and the torrential rain of Showa 47 year. Without Wakosugi, the damage was further enormous, so it seems that the residents made even more admiration to this tree.

Unfortunately, due to typhoon damage in summer 2003 year (Heisei 15 year) broom cedar broke the big branch which had been extending from near the root, but because treatment was given by the tree doctor and the landscaping business soon , It is still alive now.

When I visited here, I had a surprise of 3 times.

The 1 time was running in the prefecture road towards Wakosugi, suddenly when a big tree with different scale feeling appeared.

The 2 time is when you climb up the slope on the side of the chestnut.

The 3 time is when I looked up at a chestnut in the vicinity.

I would like you to taste this surprise all by all means. Just watching the trees where God lives, you can get energetic.
